Why not challenge yourself to a new sport in the new year? From sports for beginners like swimming to extreme Iron Man competitions, there is something for everyone to keep fit and healthy, so what are you waiting for?
To help you choose, we have listed a few of the most popular sports that anyone can start and where to go locally.
Tennis & Squash – This is a great family sport that anyone can start at any age. We stock a great range of tennis rackets for all ages and levels, along with tennis wear, there’s no better time to take to the court! Visit Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis & Squash Racket Club’s or Halton Tennis Club for more details. Visit the store for the latest rackets available, from beginners rackets to pro rackets as used by Roger Federer.
Swimming – Swimming is the best form of exercise for anyone that is not used to exercise or is recovering from an injury (subject to your doctors approval of course). With Chesham Moor Swim & Gym Club you can ensure you won’t get cold whilst swimming under the stars, the pool is heated to 83 degrees throughout the winter! Forget the Boxing Day swim on Brighton, you can perfect your stroke whilst the steam rises from the pool around you! Forget the bikini, we hold a full range of swimwear for serious swimmers!
Rugby – There are many clubs around the area for all ages and abilities. At Camelot Rugby Club in Hemel Hempstead, they have teams for Seniors, Juniors and Mini’s (under 7’s can also have a go). After all, whats better than standing cheering on your boys in the mud on a cold January day!
Running – If you have ever thought of joining a running club but afraid you won’t keep up, don’t worry! There is a website that offers you a chance to join a local group and run when it suits you. Meetup is a great place to find new friends with the same interests as yours, in the same area too! Search Running in Berkhamsted for example to see the meetups arranged. Check out our Stella McCartney range of fitness wear, perfect for winter running with reflective panels.
Cycling – If you are looking to begin your cycling this year, then why not pop in over to Cycling Friends website, they have a list of lots of groups for all levels across, Herts, Beds and Bucks. One of our favourite is Tring Velo, great friendly group without being intimidating by size and experience!
Hockey – Berkhamsted and Hemel Hockey Club is a full on family hockey club. It caters for men and women of all ages and abilities. Situated at Cowroast, between Berkhamsted and Tring makes it easy to reach for everyone, after all some of you can even cycle to it and get a double workout! Don’t forget we stock a wide range of Hockey sticks and guards in store.
Iron Man Challenge – If you have ever considered entering an Iron Man Challenge, then why not pop in to speak with Dave at the shop, He is currently training for his Austrian Iron Man challenge in July. and would be happy to share his tips on training, registering and general questions to see if it’s for you!
